What exactly is Tin disulfide?

Tin disulfide - an inorganic compound with a chemical formula of SnS2. It is a yellow hexagonal flake containing it's CdI2 crystal form. It is hardly soluble in water, but it is liquid in aqua regia and hot alkaline solutions. It is also in sodium sulfide Solution, which is frequently used as gold paint.

Tin disulfide will dissolve in the hot alkali solution. It also undergoes coordination reaction with concentrated hydrochloric acid. However, it's non-soluble in dilute acid and is insoluble in water and nitric acid. It may also react with ammonium sulfide and dissolve.

Electrochemical behavior of multi-walled carbon nanotubes confined to tin disulfide, the negative electrodes for lithium ion battery

Direct current arc plasma technique was used to make multi-walled carbon Nanotube-confined tin Nanostructures (Sn@MWCNT) as the precursor under a methane atmosphere, and then SnS_2@MWCNT were made by their sulfurization reactions. The results of the physical characterisation of the material like Raman, X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and the transmission electron microscope (TEM) revealed that the length of multi-walled carbon-carbon nanotubes were about 400nm. Additionally, the carbon layer on the surface was well crystallized while the size of the carbon layer was 10 nanometers. Lithium-ion battery systems using Sn S2@MWCNT nanostructures for anodes materials have fairly good electrochemical performance. The initial recharge Coulomb effectiveness is 71%, and after 50 cycles, the power still remains at 703mAh?g-1. The characteristics of high-capacity SnS_2@MWCNT nanostructured electrodes come from the fact that different types of active materials have the capacity of the two together. Study on electrochemical performance of tin disulfide/single-walled carbon nanotube composite material used as anode material for lithium-ion battery

A novel composite made up of SnS2 together with the single-walled carbon-nanotube (SWCNTs) was developed using an easy solvothermal procedure. It has excellent electrochemical characteristics after being used as the negative electrode material of lithium Ion batteries. With a high current density of 1 A/gand after 100 times, the battery still retains a specific capacity that is reversible of 515 mg/g. As a comparison, we used similar methods to synthesize a single SnS2 material and conducted an electrochemical analysis on it. Results show that even though the initial power of SnS2 material is quite impressive, the cycle performance is poorand is rapidly degraded after just 20 cycles. The superior efficiency of the composite in batteries made from lithium is thought to be the result of the synergy that occurs between the two component that comprise SnS2 and SWCNTs.
